i'm brooke. a short, fatish, bisexual, feminist, pacifist, very-liberal activist. i have 4 cats. and 2 computers, 2 kayaks, 1 masters degree, multiple backpacks, and way too many books. i live in the most beautiful eugene, oregon. i'm currently disabled due to treatment resistant severe depression. i've been blogging since election day of 2000. i'm born and raised in the mountains of southwestern virginia. i could join the daughters of the american revolution, i don't think they'd like me cause i hear they like to throw tea parties instead of rallies and revolutions.

Friday, August 15

long day today. spent the day at the legislature trying to get our anti-usa patriot act resolution bill moved through as many places as possible.

yesterday it came out of legislative council (lc) and we got it today from rep. floyd prozanski. we had to get the bill-back signed by as many people as possible, so we got 3 republican and 6 democrat senators to sign off as co-sponsors... we would have had more but we had to get members of the house to sign off, and it had to get dropped (aka introduced) today too. our little bill got birthed sometime between 2 and 3 when sen. walker introduced it to the senate, when it also got a name sjm (senate joint memorial) 7. monday it will get a reading and then get assigned to the senate rules committee. don't know how long it will be in rules, it could die there as we *really* needed the 16 signatures to get it out and onto the floor. there is a group going up on monday, i might go, but i'll defintely go again sometime next week.

i'm whipped. it was a long day. my feet hurt, my back hurt, i was ready to go home at 9 (we didn't leave till 4, 4.30), but it was worth it. and i was told i'm smart and articulate by one of my fellow lcbordc groupies today. while i'll disagree to some point, i'll also agree.

and if anyone of the 2 or 3 readers of this spot gets newsweek, look for the name "hope marston" in some brief or article about the patriot act and its detractors. hope is the unoffical leader of the lane county bill of rights defense committee.
